Help! I love having sex "doggy style" with my boyfriend, but it leaves me in so much pain. My shoulders and arms ache for days after having sex in that position, even if its only for 10 minutes. Is there an alternative position that will get that deep penetration? Should I work out my shoulders? Stretch? I love the naughty nature of the position as well as how it feels, so I'm hoping there's an alternative. Thanks!
This may be my shortest answer ever. There is definitely a work around for arm and muscle fatigue from doggy-style sex. Instead of just sitting on your hands and knees, prop your torso up on a pile of pillows so that your body is still in the same general position, allowing for the same penetrative feeling, but your arms are not bearing the entire load of your upper body. If you don't have enough pillows, buy a few more. Three big, puffy, "firm" type pillows should do the trick.
Another bonus to this fix? It frees up your hands so that you can stimulate your own clitoris if you want to. The only real drawback to using props is that you have to arrange yourself on them (which might slow things down for about 10 seconds) and they have to be close at hand, so you won't have them on you if you're in your car or in the woods or on your bathroom floor. Besides that, it's an easy and effective trick that you can use to take the fatigue and awkward angles out of all sorts of sexual positions, not just doggie style. Try a pillow under your hips for missionary or between your knees for spooning. Be creative. Props really make life easier.
If you're a purist and want to be able to support your own weight for doggy style all the time, there are definitely exercises that can give you that kind of upper body strength. Look into yoga. Many basic poses in yoga (downward dog, chaturanga, plank) build the kind of strength and stamina you need to stay on your hands and knees for a prolonged period of time. These exercises give you great triceps too, which makes your arms look really toned, so even if its months of practice before you're fit enough to enjoy the sex without fatigue, you'll be looking better the entire time you practice your poses. I recommend actually taking classes if you're serious about learning these yoga poses. Once you have a teacher correct your form, you can practice them at home on your own as much as you want. If you try to just do them from pictures, you're unlikely to get the right form and the full benefit of the pose that comes with it.
